Alicia Johnson
I am passionate about providing a safe, empathetic, affirming, and judgement-free environment for young adults to explore and identify their emotions and behavior patterns. As a therapist, my goal is to meet you where you are to help you build awareness and insight into your life experiences. I offer a strengths-based, person-centered, holistic approach to help you feel empowered to begin your journey into healing. With an emphasis on mindfulness and a trauma-informed focus, we will work together to identify tools that will help promote growth in your self-confidence and self-esteem, allowing you to overcome challenges and live a fulfilling life.
I have six years of experience in providing crisis intervention to adolescents and adults struggling with suicidal ideation and self-harming behavior in a hospital setting. My work history has provided me with the opportunity to teach individuals struggling with trauma, mood dysregulation, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, domestic violence, sexual assault, and substance use, techniques as it relates to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), such as mindfulness and cognitive restructuring. I also have experience in psychoeducation as it relates to emotion regulation, cognitive distortions, grounding techniques, and coping skills.
I am a Limited Licensed Master’s level Social Worker (LLMSW) practicing under supervision from a fully Licensed Master’s level Social Worker (LMSW). I obtained my Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences in Psychology and my Master’s of Social Work from Grand Valley State University.
I work with individuals of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as those identifying within the LGBTQIA+ community.
